Determination of metals

The Laboratory of National Institute for Silicosis is equipped with a mass spectrometer with plasma source (ICP-MS), that allows the simultaneous analysis of a big amount of the elements of the periodic table at trace (ppm or μg / g) and ultratrace (ppb or ng / g) levels in mineral samples.

For bulk materials, metal analysis is usually applied in order to detect the presence of contaminants in minerals used in fields such as cosmetics or paints manufacture.
