Respirable crystalline silica
Respirable crystalline silica in bulk materials
According to the categorization of respirable crystalline silica as a carcinogenic agent (Directive 2017/2398) bulk materials must be monitorized in order to inform about their risks.
The respirable fraction of the bulk material is separated by sedimentation according to the Stokes law and the analysis of silica (quartz and / or cristobalite) in the respirable fraction is determined by XRD. In regard to this item, IMA Europe (European Minerals Association) has recognized the technical competence of the lab of the National Institute for Silicosis for this analysis.
